MONDAY, JAN. 26

To Georgia & Michael,

OMG! Georgia! I can't believe I'm gonna be an aunt! I hope you have a little boy, so he can get all excited when his awesome Marine aunt comes to visit on leave :) AARGGH! It's just like you and Michael to let it be a surprise.

To Everyone:

I'm really liking boot camp. I can't imagine what I'd do if I left now. There's so much to do and learn everyday from 04:30 to 21:00, and it's so rushed and structured, that I don't know what I would do with myself if I was given all that "free" time at home.

We went on our first full-gear, 5 mile hike on Saturday, and it was the hardest thing that I have ever done (you should see my feet). But that's the awesome thing about this place; each day there's something else that's " the hardest thing you've ever done", and you just keep getting higher and higher on the "goal ladder", and it's an amazing feeling to be able to see how far you can really push yourself (mentally and physically). I've already had over 50 classes, and memorized 100 definitions of M.C. terminology.

We all had to climb a 30ft. rope yesterday, and I was the first to the top of all 100 girls! It's all in technique. This week, as you know, is swim week. This weekend is the MCMAP testing, and initial drill competition. We're competing against Platoon 4009 for the 1st of 5 trophies.

I also had SDI inspection last week, and I failed, (for moving at parade rest) (Ruby turned her eyes downward fo a second to check her shoe laces) after days and days of rifle and uniform cleaning, ironing, memorization, etc., all wasted for twitching!!:( It sucks too, because if you fail, you are instantly disqualified for promotion (Honor Grad). Fortunately, SDI M is giving me a chance to redeem myself this Sunday with a do-over.:)

In two weeks we go to the rifle range! We get to design and make our platoon flag for it, and so far everybody likes my idea best. The DIs like anything with bones, guns and blood, so my design was pretty popular:) (I made it tough for them) I've included a rough draft. The "Expert Rifle" medal is the background. See below letter

It hasn't snowed here yet, but we'll see. Lots of love and I'll write soon.
xoxo Lady Leatherneck :)
