NO DATE..MON, FEB. 2?

Hey, Y'all,

Guess what? More bragging, that's what.

First, our SDI is really strict, and several of the recruits were lucky and got an "average" on their overall grade. Most of them got "below average" or "unsatisfactory". Since I failed the first SDI inspection (see post Jan. 26) I'm only down on paper as "average" but after my re-inspection, the SDI reported me "above average in uniform, excellent on arms manual and rifle work, above average in hygene, and a bonus for confidence :) I would've recieved the highest score of the platoon!! (had it not been for the initial snafu).
We also had our first 3 mile run and I came in 1st, 1.40 minutes ahead of 2nd place with a time of 22.20! Oh, YEAH!! 1.20 mins from max-0ut, Dad! :)
We also did the gas chamber, and it didn't bother me because I followed the instructions, but some of the girls went CRAZY. They let the gas in their masks and had snot and slobber spewing out from EVERYWHERE. It was pretty funny. (only R. would find this funny...go online and check out what this 'gas chamber' experience is like)
I saw (?) with who I think is his GF, (she's fat, and fat is starting to tick me off.) (common among "the mean, lean.."! )
OK, well a short letter for now, write back soon.
xoxoxo Gotta go, big day tomorrow.

NO DATE...PRESUME SAT. JAN. 31

Hi All!
Sorry it's been a while, this has been a BUSY week. I've got a lot of bragging to do :)
First, we had MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program) and bayonet testing, and I got 100. Then we had a bunch of competitive stuff. (All the following events had a total of 96 girls competing) We had our first 2.5 mile run, and I came in 4th, (they didn't give us our times :(
Then we had swim week, which was pretty tough because it's mostly water survival and rescue, which means you're in full cami's and boots, flak jacket, helmet, pack and M16. Some times we had to pull our partner across the pool, wearing all that, and not touch the bottom. I was one of the five girls that made it to Swim Qualification 2, which is the highest you can get here.
Today we had the obstacle course race, which was awesome! It consists of several log hurdles you have to get over, wood wall climbs, (unassisted), a series of poles you have to maneuver over w/out hitting the ground, a 20 ft. rope climb, a 1/2 mile run, and finished with performing a dead mans' drag w/a partner, and running a distance with your partner on your back (fireman's carry). And guess what! 1st, that's what! Way first!
We also had our third pugil stick tournament with Plt. 4009, and we SLAUGHTERED them. We didn't really have a choice, as SSGT was not about to give up the flag. The way this ring was set up, was like a little gladiator's arena, with 2 shoots, 1 on each end.
They turn, so you can't see your opponent as you run in. You come out of the shoots, meet in the middle, and try to "kill" each other. :) Like the tigers on "Two Brothers". When we were all "geared up" and it was our turn in the shoot, DI SSGT L. would grab your helmet by the face cage and push you around, all the while spitting in your face to "Get mad, and go kill her!" She was all like, "Beck, you ain't mad are you? Huh? Well, SHE wants to rip your guts out and feed 'em to you, so get mad and go kill her!" She's pretty intense, (if you can't tell :))
Rifle Week and Grass Week are coming up and we'll be out in the range, so I don't know how mail is going to work. I'll try to write though, especially if I get "Expert" which I am planning on doing, FYI. :)
Love you guys and I'm 1/3 done!!
xoxo Ruby
